2010: a subtle design upgrade

Welcome to the new and improved stratosferik.com but that’s only a start.

After much reviewing, user feedback gathering, I’ve redesign the site, but only slightly.

I wanted to make the pages clearer, give more prominence to the subject and have a more streamlined/consistent approach between the various sections.

I also wanted to improve the performance of the site, I found it at first quite slow and was worried that you on the other hand, might struggle a bit with your mobile broadband connection (My google stats say so).

So I clean the Css, the javascript calls and used a great plug-in called : php-speedy. This plug-in dynamically merge the various CSS and javascript into a single file, reducing drastically the number of http requests.

I’m doing all of that for you, be grateful :)

I like list and so do you I hope. So here’s what happened:

  • Changed the menu from css sprites to pure css, for faster loading time and improved accessibility
  • Redesign of the right side bar to be more contextual i.e. quick links to portfolio items on portfolio page, Latest blog on blog pages etc
  • Inclusion of  my last tweets as first item in sidebar (this is to give you something fresh in between my blog posts)
  • Color code of sidebar item for visual clue (Yellow for blog post, Green for portfolio, Teal for about me, etc…) I also change a background image by css equivalent
  • Bigger, clearer presentation of my work in portfolio section. (Remove the pseudo 3 columns layouts).
  • Total re-font of the contact page: Now I give you my details first, then you can send me a message through  the updated very simple form.
I kept as many option as possible for you to get in touch.

Left to do:

  • Do something about my cartoon… What should I do with it? let me know
  • Review my colour scheme as the yellow is still a bit off
  • Update, improve, experiment…
  • Create exciting stuff and talk about what’s pump me up these days.
  • Give me a pat on the back
